Think that sport has passed you by? Lacking a bit of sporting confidence? Enjoy being in a team and having fun or just want to improve your skills? Look no further! Why not play ladies & girls' softball or girls' hardball cricket?
Women’s Softball Cricket is a short format of cricket, using a softer cricket ball. The game is designed to give everyone a fair opportunity to bat, bowl and field, in a supportive environment, which makes it a brilliant way for women of all ages to get involved regardless of skill level or fitness.
Your local softball team is Moorland Maidens and their home club is Buckland Monachorum Cricket Club (BMCC), whose beautiful cricket grounds in Crapstone have the most spectacular views over the Tamar and beyond.
The team plays matches in beautiful surroundings all over Devon as part of the Devon Women’s Softball Cricket League. They are lucky to have volunteer coaches providing training for ladies on a Monday evening at BMCC (located in Crapstone), and on a Thursday evenings at Yelverton Bohemians Cricket Club (YBCC), which gives busy people a chance to attend either session. The 2023 season starts on Monday 24 April at 1800 hrs at BMCC Crapstone, PL20 6PF and continues until September.
The team also organises and runs the all-girls Moorland (Mini) Maidens group, which is hosted at YBCC. The girls can play softball or hardball cricket. The age range is from 8 – 14 and they train on Friday evenings at YBCC. Girls can join the Ladies team from age 13 upwards. The first training session for girls is Friday 21 April continuing until 21 July 2023.
A women’s softball cricket festival, in which you play several friendly matches, will be taking place on Sunday 11 June at BMCC; the event is designed particularly for new players. Come and have a look - or better still, pop along for a free trial session.
