The Lyric
The range of work presented and produced on the The Lyric stage is incredibly extensive and includes major touring drama and musical productions by producers and theatre companies such as Cameron Mackintosh, Propeller, Frantic Assembly and the National Theatre; as well as welcoming leading opera and dance companies to the South West including Glyndebourne, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Welsh National Opera, Rambert and Matthew Bourne.
The Theatre Royal Plymouth also produces its own drama and musical productions, often with commercial or subsidised partners and many tour nationally or transfer to the West End.
Geography is still everything in British theatre. If The Drum Plymouth was in London it would be feted as it deserves

We produce and present new and existing works in The Drum, which has built a national reputation for the quality of its programme and innovative work, winning the prestigious Peter Brook Empty Space Award. As well producing our own plays for The Drum, we regularly collaborate with leading theatres and companies in the UK and Europe including Paines Plough, Told by an Idiot, Ontroerend Goed, Frantic Assembly and The Royal Court.

The Lab is a creative space in the heart of the theatre. Local young people and communities, as well as emerging and professional artists is used as a space to meet, experiment and discover, whilst creating and sharing their work.
We run a number of projects with specific communities, including refugees and asylum seekers, people with learning difficulties, socially excluded adults and young people, and people not in education, employment or training. The Lab was created in order to give an easily accessible base in the city centre. Further to this, we have set up The Lab Company which aims to support the development of early career theatre artists and practitioners.
