Skiing
Boy skiing on the slopes
With Christmas behind us, there's a lot to be said for swapping our grey January days for snow-covered slopes...
We've come a long way since skiing was primarily just another mode of transport. It's now an annual tradition for many families or groups to get away at the start of the year to enjoy some recreation on the slopes. The fresh air, stunning surroundings and exercise are often a welcome change after the indulgences of Christmas.
There are plenty of options when it comes to skiing - many opt for a European break, whilst others head for a winter adventure in America or Canada. The resort you choose will very much depend on the needs of your group, so there's a lot to consider.
Are you all keen skiers?
This may seem like an obvious question, but it's easy for those who are competent at skiing to get caught up in the moment and forget that others may not be as skilled. Remember to think about the height of the slopes on offer in different locations. Consider the distance from your accommodation to the lifts and whether the lifts will be easy for those with less experience to use. A travel agent with knowledge of skiing in different destinations will always be happy to advise you.
What about children?
Be sure to factor in the ages of any children in your party and to check ahead for facilities on offer. You may want to consider kids' clubs or childcare options. There may also be a nursery slope or ski school for younger travellers to start learning the art of skiing from a young age!
Are there any non-skiers?
If you have anyone in your group who wants to join you but is a non-skier, make sure you take a look at a variety of options so that they have plenty to keep them occupied on your break. They may not want to watch you having fun on the slopes for the entire trip; what else can they do on your getaway?
Ask your agent
The best way to compare different resorts and find the ideal fit is to talk to a travel agent with plenty of knowledge and experience of skiing in different locations.
