Great Big Green Week
Tavistock is marking the Great Big Green Week (18th - 26th September) which involves community events across Britain. The idea is to show that climate change and loss of nature matter here, and share ways for everyone to get involved and make a difference. The week starts with “All Things Green” at Tavistock Library on Saturday 18th, with family-friendly activities and information on topics such as energy, food, wildlife and transport (10am-3pm). Visitors can take part in “Moths to a Flame”, decorating a moth to carry their message to world leaders at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow later this year. That opportunity continues all week, as does a special book display and an exhibition in the foyer.
For those who prefer to connect through online evening events, there's Transition Tavistock's new sustainability book club on Tuesday 21st, and a talk by Tamar Energy Community "Retrofitting you home - What's this about" on Thursday 23rd. Booking links for these, and details of further free events on the final weekend are on https://www.transitiontavistock.org.uk/events/gbgw2021/
You can get involved at Tavistock Library with the following opportunities:
Foyer display: Saturday 18th to Saturday 25th September
Displays in the foyer from organisations who will inspire you to get involved and take action. The display runs until 26th September and can still accept information from other groups and organisations who would like to promote their activities for Great Big Green Week.
All Things Green: Saturday 18th September – between 10am and 3pm
Information, activities and opportunities to make a difference at the Great Big Green Week fayre, with local groups including Transition Tavistock; Tamar Energy Community; Devon Wildlife Trust and many others. Scrapstore will be running a drop-in craft activity for children and adults. Borrow from the specially created book display for adults and children to learn more.
