Friday 11th October
Lamerton Handbells in concert
We are excited to be welcoming the Lamerton Handbell Ringers to St Constantine`s at Milton Abbot for what promises to be a wonderful evening for all the family. They will be joined by our church organist, Mr Tony Dando who will be playing a few pieces on the organ between the bellringing sessions. The concert will be a varied programme of well-known tunes interspersed with a couple of peals of handbells, finishing with a finger buffet in the church – it should be a great evening!
The Lamerton Association of Handbell Ringers was founded by Geoff Hill in 1963 and has been very active ever since. The team has been holding a handbell festival in Lamerton Parish Hall every year since 1973, and the 46th event will take place the evening following the concert, on 12th October. The funds raised at the festivals together with collections leading up to Christmas are always donated to local charities, and Valerie Hill said: “It is a great pleasure for us to be able to support the refurbishment of the bells in Milton Abbot Church”.
The bell frame in Milton Abbot Church needs to be replaced at a cost of over £60,000 and at the end of this year the bells will be taken down. However, it will not be possible to undertake the project to retune the bells and rehang them until the money has been raised. Milton Abbot is a very small church PCC and is also looking for someone to help lead the project; if you have some time and enthusiasm and would like to help with this project St Constantine’s would love to hear from you.
7.00pm at St Constantine`s Church, Milton Abbot; pre-booked tickets £5.00 for adults and £2.50 for children to include the supper. Please contact Pat Lovell on 01822 618452 or matreasuer@southtamar.church for tickets and information.
