Join Plymouth Symphony Orchestra, 26th November, Public Hall, Liskeard 17:30 and 29th November St Andrews, Plymouth 19:30 for this celebration of classic British masterworks, to recognise the coronation year of King Charles III.
The programme includes Walton’s immediately recognisable Crown Imperial march, Handel’s Zadok the Priest, Jupiter from Holst’s The Planets suite and Majesty, composed by Plymouth’s Clive Jenkins, originally composed for a concert at the V&A Museum, London for an exhibition of photographs of the Royal Family.
Joining PSO for Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending are soloists Nathan Broomhead (Liskeard) and Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux (Plymouth). It is an exquisite musical portrayal of a lark soaring high above the tranquil English countryside, and the work was inspired by George Meredith’s poem of the same name.
Nathan enjoys performing both as a soloist and orchestra player with PSO. A lecturer in mathematics at the University of Plymouth, his extensive musical experiences include leading the Oxford University Orchestra and Sinfonietta, playing with the Bath Symphony Orchestra and performing as Konzertmeister of the Collegium Musicum in Hannover.
YCAT young musician, Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux, was nominated as a Rising Star Artist by Classic FM in 2022, having recently completed a master’s degree at the Royal College of Music. She has performed extensively, including at Wigmore Hall and with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and CBSO and in 2022 released her debut album ‘Ostinata’.
And any celebration of British music would not be complete without Edward Elgar’s magnificent, rich and diverse Enigma Variations, considered to be one of the greatest of all English orchestral works.
