Coming to the Wharf for a return visit, Wurlitza’s performance of their live soundtrack to the silent film ‘Sunrise’ promises to be a treat.
‘Sunrise’ is silent film at its most poetic. Cornish band Wurlitza have added music that will be both familiar and unfamiliar, from Bach and Villa Lobos to Talking Heads, Echo and the Bunnymen, Madness and the Vapors – as well as some of their own.
Every part of the performance is live, with no pre-recorded material at all. With five musicians and a soundman, Wurlitza’s musical line up uses four part harmonies, piano and keyboards, classical and steel guitars, bass guitar, clarinet and mixed percussion.
“What I particularly admired was Wurlitza’s skill in fitting the music to the films from both a timing point of view but also choosing just the right type of music.” - Nick Bailey, Classic FM
