It’s good to see that the Theatre of Boom is back with a brand new, self-written production this Christmas.
After their previous and more sombre plays, ‘Field of Greens’ by Rick O’Shay and ‘The Browne House’ by Vince Sutton, ‘Zak the Zombie and the Christmas Repair Shop’ is much lighter fare but stuffed full of Christmas spirit!
It’s about Zak, a lonely Zombie who happens to be a vegetarian, appearing back behind the counter at his own repair shop in the Devon village of Clatterton St.Mary.
His memory is not good, his personal hygiene leaves a lot to be desired, bits fall off him now and again and he is not made to feel welcome by the villagers, least of all by Building Reg, the villain of the story.
But one day, Zak is befriended by a Romanian post office worker - and step by stomp, the Christmas Zak dreaded becomes a magical one that the whole village will never forget.
It’s another offering from writer Rick O’Shay, local entertainer, writer of Plymouth Argyle’s Janner Song and unashamed fan of Christmas as well as The Pilgrims.
With guest stars ‘Blokes Who Sing’ as the Clatterton St.Mary Church Choir’ this promises to be a wonderful show for all the family – at family-friendly ticket prices too – though parents and guardians are advised that some of the effects and make-up may not be suitable for children under 7 years. However, if they love Zombies, they’ll love this show!
‘Zak the Zombie and the Christmas Repair Shop’ will be at The Green Taverners Theatre at Home Park on the 5th, 6th and 7th of December
The Muse Theatre, Lipson on the 14th and 15th of December
and Tavistock Town Hall on the 27th and 28th of January.
